We provide training support as personal grants for professionals working in the audiovisual industry for their further education. Support for courses can be awarded to organisations organising courses and training events for the audiovisual industry.
The support is awarded as a personal grant to professional authors. The applicant must hold a Finnish personal identity code.
Support criteria
Support can be granted to professionals working in the audiovisual sector in the artistic, journalistic, artistic-technical or production fields, for personal training, participation fees and travel expenses.
The support is not granted for
- basic education in the audiovisual industry or education that should clearly be paid by the employer
- costs of travelling to festivals or other events without an educational aspect
- accommodation costs, costs of living, per diems or loss of earnings during training
NOTE: lf the project is related to an audiovisual work and the target is international education, support for international promotion is applied for by the production company advancing the audiovisual work, following the support guidelines for support for international promotion.
- only translators can be granted the support for education related to language skills
Decision criteria
- previous education and work experience of the applicant, in particular in terms of copyright accumulation, i.e. the number of works that have been in the public distribution and have generated support fund
- previous grants
- level and content of the planned education
- suitability of the training regarding the applicant’s professional needs
An applicant can be awarded a grant not more than every two years.
Applicants in permanent relationships need to secure funding for the education from their employer. The employer’s participation is also required where the training of a temporary worker will benefit the employer during the period of temporary employment or where the applicant is self-employed (tmi) or a company owner or partner.
Some authors working in the television industry can apply for support from Yleisradio’s education fund KOURA, who distribute copyright-related remuneration funds for the further professional education of employees of Yleisradio and MTV.
If the flnal report is overdue, the applicant is ineligible for additional support.
Application process
The support is applied for through AVEK’s application system.
AVEK’s Education Section issues decisions related to the education support. The application must be submitted to AVEK two weeks before a meeting of the Education Section and before the education or course event begins.
If the training consists of several parts, support can be applied for the remaining parts of the training in the middle of the training.
The next meeting of the Education Section will be on 6.5.2025. The application must be submitted to AVEK no later than 21 April and before the start of the training or course event.
The support cannot be applied for retroactively. (Exceptions to this are training courses organised or started between 1.1.2025 and 12.3.2025, for which you can also apply for retroactive support.)
Application
In addition to the applicant’s basic information, the following sections of the application form must be filled in:
Application title
Name of the training (course, module, degree, etc.)
What the support will be used for in brief and non-technical language (max. 300 characters)
Short description of the training
Extensive description of content (max. 5,000 characters)
Detailed description of the training and the applicant’s reasoning why they need this education.
Work plan (max. 5,000 characters)
Work plan concerning studies and publications. A description related to training of whether the applicant is in an employment relationship or works as a freelancer during the training and, if an employment relationship exists, a description of the employer’s funding. Other types of funding can also be reported here or as a separate attachment.
Cost estimate
Costs can be made as a calculation directly on the application form or as a separate attachment.

Contract/commitment
The support is paid on the basis of a commitment signed in the application system. The commitment defines the rights and obligations of the recipient of the support and the deadline for the final report. lf the support has not been withdrawn within three months from an approved decision and a replacing plan has not been presented, any undrawn support is returned to AVEK’s promotional funds.
Final report
The final report must be submitted through the digital application system by th
e deadline specified in the commitment.
If the final report has not been submitted by the deadline and a new deadline has not been agreed upon with AVEK, the support granted must be paid back.
The final report must include the following information:
- a short description of the training
- an assessment of the training and a more extensive description of its content
- an assessment of the training’s significance to the applicant’s job
- a cost specification of the realised costs and funding (in the same format as in the application)
- other possible attachments, such as images, links, etc. (optional)
- if a grant for research or publication has been issued, one copy of the study or publication
Some training support reports may be published in AVEK’s newsletter and other publications also on AVEK’s website.
The support is granted for organisations in the audiovisual industry for arranging courses and training events related to the audiovisual industry.
Professionals working with the theme of the training must be able to access the training. A reasonable registration fee can be required from the participants of the training. The training must also have other funding besides AVEK’s course support.
Grants can be awarded for the educational purposes of the course: trainers’ fees, materials and presentation fees.
The support is not granted for presentation series without an educational aspect.
lf the final report is overdue, the applicant is ineligible for additional support.

- A financial report and further plans
- A written description of any possible changes to the cost estimate and the actual funding. A description of possible follow-up activity plans.
- A cost specification of the realised costs and funding compared with the budget (in the same format as in the application). As a separate attachment, if necessary.
- Other possible attachments, such as programmes, websites, images, links, etc.
Crediting AVEK
The recipient of the support must include AVEK’s name and/or logo in the publication or the course’s or training event’s programme and communication and marketing materials. Instructions for and more information about crediting AVEK can be found from our “AVEK credits” page.
