Kaya Pakaslahti’s film asks: When does autofiction turn into betrayal?

Writer and director Kaya Pakaslahti explores the tension between artistic freedom and personal responsibility in her debut feature film My Year in Fiction. In the psychological drama, a teacher and a student blur the lines between art and life. This interview is part of a series introducing the filmmakers and projects selected for Kehittämö Talent Development Lab.

Kaya Pakaslahti is working on the film My Year in Fiction, produced by Jenni Jauri from Silmu Films, as part of the Kehittämö Talent Development Lab.

Kehittämö – Talent Development Lab is a development programme by AVEK and the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the aim of which is to strengthen the personal voices of the most talented filmmakers of their generation and create new audiovisual works of the highest quality. Authors selected for the programme receive a €55,000 grant to develop their work, as well as personal mentoring from top international professionals in the field.

The programme is made possible by the financial support of the Finnish Cultural Foundation. Half of the funding for the programme comes from the Finnish Cultural Foundation and half from AVEK’s compensation for private copying.
