Government decision to cut compensation will jeopardise AVEK’s support for films

Last month, the news was released that the government discussion on spending limits had resulted in cuts that will directly affect creators in the audiovisual sector. The compensation for private copying, which is the source of most of AVEK’s funds, will be cut in half. This may deal a fatal blow to AVEK’s support activities. The direct remunerations distributed by Kopiosto for audiovisual authors will also be affected.

Demo grants for Digidemo and Creademo have been awarded

A total of €490,000 in AVEK’s demo grants were awarded to 26 different projects. DigiDemo grants totalled €340,000 and CreaDemo grants €150,000.

Creative industry organisations want regulation of and transparency in artificial intelligence

We interviewed our member organisations about the changes to creative industries brought on by artificial intelligence. Creative industry organisations are calling for transparency regarding the training material for AI, as well as swiftness in compiling regulations. There is also need for shared discussions and developing shared practices in the field.

This year, Finland’s most important media art award will go to artist Pilvi Takala. Close Watch, the latest creation from Takala who works with video and performance art, represented Finland at last year’s Venice Biennial.

The impact of AVEK's funding

AVEK funds the production of new documentary films, animations, short films and media art works. The funds that we distribute generate jobs, tax revenue and, for the audiovisual sector, funds from outside of public financing, in addition to new culture.

Winner of the 2023 AVEK Award to be chosen by Director of Konsthall Tornedalen Theodor Ringborg

Theodor Ringborg, an experienced Swedish curator, will choose the next winner of the AVEK Award from among shortlisted candidates. Finland’s most significant media art award will be presented on 6 September.

Five new Finnish films to take shape in Kehittämö – Talent Development Lab

Five film projects have been selected to take part in Finland’s first development programme for young audiovisual artists. The authors selected for Kehittämö – Talent Development Lab will receive mentoring from international experts in the field and a €55,000 grant to develop their project. The aim is to create new, high-quality audiovisual works and also strengthen the personal voice of talented filmmakers.
