Public lending remunerations are copyright remunerations paid to authors for the lending of their works to the public. The public lending remunerations are distributed for the lending at public libraries maintained by municipalities and university libraries. The public lending remunerations for visual artists apply to books that have been lent the most: the remunerations are distributed to around 50,000 publications that have been lent the most.
The management and distribution of the remunerations paid to authors by the Ministry of Education and Culture is shared between three copyright organisations. Kopiosto, Sanasto and Teosto are in charge of the public lending remunerations for authors of visual arts and photography, authors of literary works and authors of musical works, respectively.
