We want to be responsible in both words and deeds. According to our values, we promote creative work openly, boldly and together. Our sustainability programme runs until 2030. Our first sustainability report will be published in 2025.
Fair and transparent partner
We are a reliable partner for both creative professionals and the users of works. We influence society by engaging with and listening to our stakeholders.
Our aim is to improve the transparency of our operations and communicate openly about our activities. We updated our communications strategy at the beginning of 2024 and will develop a targeted communications plan for each of our interest groups. We increased the transparency of AVEK’s grant decision processes by explaining them on our website.
We want to ensure an excellent customer experience. To achieve this, we will first conduct customer surveys to understand the experiences of our different customer groups. In 2024, we conducted a survey of audiovisual professionals who receive direct compensation from us. Of the respondents, 91% were fairly or very satisfied with our customer service (n = 925).
We also regularly ask for feedback from our 45 member organisations. We hope to set an example of responsibility and sustainability for our member organisations. We presented our sustainability programme at Kopiosto’s autumn meeting in 2023.
Responsible user of funds
We use and invest funds responsibly. We also require responsible use of copyright funds from our member organisations and AVEK’s beneficiaries.
We distribute remunerations efficiently in accordance with the payment principles agreed upon with our member organisations. We also help our member organisations use copyright funds responsibly. The organisations may use copyright remunerations for grants, study trips, awards, training and advisory services for professionals in the field they represent. We regularly familiarise new employees of our member organisations with Kopiosto’s working methods and liaise directly with the organisations. We monitor the use of the funds we distribute to the organisations through annual expenditure reports.
In the future, we also aim to specify how productions supported by AVEK should report on the realisation of responsibility and sustainability.
We invest and use funds responsibly. We actively monitor the responsibility of Kopiosto’s investment activities through the ESG reporting of our asset managers. In 2024, we organised a discussion with our Board to further develop the responsibility of our investment activities.
The responsible use of assets is about planning and efficiency. We harness the potential of automation and artificial intelligence to make our operations more efficient. In 2023, we developed internal guidelines on how AI can be used at Kopiosto to streamline our work, while respecting the creative industry. All of our staff have been encouraged to explore the potential of AI in practice. For this purpose, we have acquired Copilot licences, among others.
Healthy and competent working community
Kopiosto has a pleasant, safe and development-friendly working culture. We build it together, through good leadership and systematic communication within the working community.
We want to support the overall well-being of our employees. In 2023, we conducted an occupational well-being survey for our staff. The results revealed many positive elements: people at Kopiosto find the goals and targets of their work to be clear and meaningful. They also feel that they get enough say in setting the targets. As a rule, people at Kopiosto are satisfied with hybrid working and appreciate the investments made in occupational well-being. Of the respondents, 80% would recommend Kopiosto as an employer.
The results of the occupational well-being survey also highlighted some areas for improvement. Going forward, we therefore want to clarify our internal roles and responsibilities, make our employees feel more comfortable with raising concerns and improve our feedback culture. We also want to improve and develop the customer experience we offer.
We promote equality in our work community and prevent discrimination. Our aim is that everyone can be themselves with us. We organised training on diversity, equity and non-discrimination at a Kopiosto staff event in autumn 2023. In 2024, we also wrote down the rules of our working culture that we developed together.
We want to develop our human resources management. In 2024, we will evaluate the organisation of the HR function at Kopiosto and make decisions for the future based on this. We also want to keep the skills of our staff up to date. Therefore, we will draw up a plan on how we will monitor the development of our staff’s skills in the future.
Towards carbon neutrality
We aim to minimise the negative environmental impact of our operations. We are working towards carbon neutrality.
Our goal is to be carbon neutral by 2030. We reduce emissions from our premises and travel and make responsible purchases. We reduce food waste and favour plant-based options in our catering.
Kopiosto has been a Green Office since the end of 2020. We passed the most recent Green Office audit in early 2024. Now we want to improve our Green Office reporting and calculate Kopiosto’s carbon footprint. We are currently working on ensuring that we are able to efficiently report the data needed to calculate our carbon footprint.
We are actively working to ensure that some of our international meetings are held remotely. However, it is often necessary to go on site. We have decided to start offsetting Kopiosto’s air travel. We will offset our 2024 air travel emissions at the end of the year by restoring peatlands.
Regular reporting
Our first sustainability report will be published in 2025, and every two years thereafter.
Copyright organisations, such as Kopiosto, are governed by the Act on the Collective Management of Copyright. Its purpose is to increase the transparency of copyright management and promote good governance. The obligations imposed by the Act include an annual transparency report. Its purpose is to increase the openness and transparency of Kopiosto’s activities and financial data. You can find the transparency reports in Finnish at the bottom of our About us page.
