The copyright owners of copyrighted works, such as authors and publishers, authorise Kopiosto to issue licences to copy their works with the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto.
The authorisation allows us to administrate your rights and benefits concerning the copying of your works on your behalf.
The authorisation is always given to our member organisations in a certain capacity. The member organisations represent different sectors and capacities of the creative industry.
If you are an author of several types of works (e.g. you are a non-fiction writer and a comics artist), it is advisable to give an authorisation to all member organisations that represent the areas of your works. Hence, you can give an authorisation to more than one Kopiosto member organisation, but only once in a certain capacity.
The authorisation given to a member organisation remains valid until further notice. The authorisation is not terminated automatically if you decide to leave the association, for example, unless you specifically cancel or make changes to the authorisation. You can update the authorisation by adding new capacities, if necessary.
More information and the details of your authorisations are available at the Rightsholder Services. Contact details can be found at the bottom of the page.
You can give an authorisation to Kopiosto with the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto, if you are an author of

An authorisation is typically given to our member organisation when you
- join a member organisation
- want to enjoy the benefits offered by the organisation, such as grants.
A significant portion of the grants issued by our member organisations are financed by copyright remunerations distributed by Kopiosto.
You can give an authorisation to Kopiosto even if you are not a member of our member organisations.
More information is also available at the offices of our member organisations.
The Kopiosto authorisation is always given to one of our member organisations. Each of the organisations collects authorisations only in certain capacities, corresponding to those of its own field. Read more about the authorisations collected by your chosen organisation on the organization’s website. The organisation’s website also includes a link to Kopiosto’s authorisation service. The content of the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto can be seen in the model form of the Grant of Rights at the bottom of this page.
Log in to the authorisation service with your online banking credentials. If you do not have the opportunity to use the authorisation service, contact us at valtuudet(at)kopiosto.fi.
You can also give an authorisation directly Kopiosto. In this case, please contact us for more detailed instructions.
You can cancel the Grant of Rights in its entirety or cancel a certain category of rights or capacity. Please contact us at valtuudet(at)kopiosto.fi for further instructions.
The cancellation becomes valid at the end of the calendar year in which you have cancelled the authorisation.
In recent years, Kopiosto has added new categories of rights to the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto. The category of rights determines which rights Kopiosto can monitor for you and the types of use of works to which Kopiosto can grant permissions on your behalf.
In May 2025, a legal category regarding the training and development of artificial intelligence (GR10) was added to the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto. The new category of rights enables Kopiosto to monitor the rights of authors and other right holders when the works are used to train artificial intelligence and language models.
New categories of rights were also added to the Grant of Rights to Kopiosto in 2023. The new categories cover the use of works included in newspaper or magazine publications (GR8) and the sharing of works in online content sharing services, such as YouTube and Instagram (GR9). The category of rights related to the use of works included in the collections of libraries, archives and museums (GR5) was also expanded.
Authors who create texts and images for books, magazines and websites must approve the category updates made to their previous Grant of Rights to Kopiosto. Updates need to be approved one time only – if you have already approved them, you do not need to do so again.
