Frequently asked questions about authorisations
AV authorisations given by authors and performing artists of TV programmes
You should primarily give the authorisation to the member organisation of which you are a member and which represents professionals in your field. The type of authorisation depends on the organisation. Give authorisation in all the author roles that correspond to your work as an audiovisual author. If you wish, you can give authorisation to several organisations. You do not need to be a member of the organisation to give your authorisation.
With a Copyright Agreement for Audiovisual Authors, you transfer your exclusive right to the usage areas indicated in the agreement to the organisation of your choice, which then forwards the management of your rights to Kopiosto. Kopiosto manages the use of your works in situations where a large number of people make use of a large number of audiovisual works. Once you have transferred these rights to an audiovisual authors’ organisation, you cannot transfer the same rights to other parties, e.g. a production company. Therefore, you should remember to mention the Copyright Agreement for Audiovisual Authors when entering into new agreements with production and broadcasting companies, where necessary, exclude these rights from the scope of the agreement.
Grants of Rights to Kopiosto given by authors of texts and images
When you give a Grant of Rights to Kopiosto, we will look after your rights and interests related to the copying of your works on your behalf. As an author, you can benefit from the copyright remunerations that we collect through things such as grants funded by our member organisations with these remunerations.
It is important to give us authorisation so that we can collect copyright remunerations from the copying of works and pay them to the authors and publishers, both now and in the future. Authorisations form the basis for the copyright system.
You can cancel a Grant of Rights to Kopiosto or a specific author role covered by it via our Authorisation Service. Send us a message via the service regarding the authorisation that you wish to cancel, either in full or in part, and we will send you instructions on how to do so. The cancellation will take effect at the end of the calendar year.
The exclamation mark indicates that new categories of rights have been added to your Grant of Rights to Kopiosto. The category of rights determines which rights we can monitor for you and the types of use of works for which Kopiosto can grant licences on your behalf. Accept the updates made to the categories of rights included in a previously given Grant of Rights via the Authorisation Service.

A Grant of Rights to Kopiosto does not affect your publishing agreements or any associated copyrights, or any agreements you have entered into with your clients or your employer. Nor does a Grant of Rights to Kopiosto prevent your research articles from being published in services requiring a licence or under an open licence, for instance.
Yes, you can. Under the Copyright Act, copyright holders have the right to prohibit the use of their works in commercial text and data mining.
